OUIL403 Visual Skills - SB1 continued, Day 5

These 5 were a synthesis/modification of the 5 scamps i'd picked from my sheets - a mix of paper and various other tools for rendering.

I actually really liked how this looked in paper - Rosie enjoys travelling, I also picked this out from my analysis of her questionnaire, looking at images of escapism and feeling lost in somewhere as vast as the world is. Its simple, but it communicates a lot - my main beef with this is that I feel it'd be incredibly faffy to enlarge, and I fear that the page would have too much negative space going on if I made this in A2. I also feel that this is missing the more ~magical~ element a lot of her interests share and I think thats more relevant to her as a person than this stuff is.

This was done in paper with a mix of brush marker added for detail, I like the concept but I feel that the letters get lost a bit in the bits of stuff going on - the moon and environment would be difficult to replicate on a large scale given the nature of the brush pen I used (they'd be lost a bit on a big A2 scale). Also - I think Rosie's taste in Sci-fi steers more towards the terrestrial fantasy kind than the outer-space, alien planet world kind of stuff.

This turned out pleasantly well - I was concerned that there would be too much going on in this for it to be successful but I really like the simple silhouettes - It also hits the nail right on the head of the whole "magic-y, fantasy-storybook" look I was trying to achieve. I think if I enlarge this, i'd have to look at the composition of it to make sure nothing was too squished to either side of the page margins, and I might be tempted to play with some texture/detailing because I think the silhouettes alone would lose their charm and look a bit dull if I enlarge them on a bigger scale.

This was one of the more minimal ideas I picked out - a mix of ink, paper and marker. I actually really like this!! I just think like the world idea, it lacks the charm and the fantasy element I'm wanting to touch upon for the final. Storybook is definitely the visual theme i'm looking for

This was based of a line conversation I'd had with Rosie about dance moves in clubs. I think this idea is adorable and I really dig how bold and clean it looks in paper, I fear it might be a little bit TOO childish  though?? We shall see

After completing the A5's, I then went on to mock a couple of the strongest ones up in A3, like one final 'step up' as opposed to going straight up onto A2. With the dragon one, I started to experiment with adding texture and detail to the silhouettes, and I really liked the results - I think it gives it a whole new life and character that it was previously missing.

The dancing letters image translated alright, but I felt that the composition and also the size of the elements on the page left it looking quite bare in comparison to the dragon one. I think i'll definitely be using the dragon idea as my final A2 piece.
