OUIL404 Visual Language - Gestural Lecture Sketches

When I'm in lectures, I often get distracted by doodling. I've started to channel this in observational drawing - particularly in the gestures and body language of the people i'm surrounded by in the middle of them. I find studying how people move and hold themselves really interesting, especially when it speaks volumes about their personality; for example, both Fred and Chris are very Hands-y when they talk, though Fred often is much more forceful and to the point where Chris is a lot softer in his gestures.

The same extends to Richard who tends to be a very informal person - he will slouch and lean on things and he's very fluid (which I think reflects on him as well, being very anti-establishment and relaxed) He's very fun to draw.

I think seeing other peoples reactions in a Lecture is also pretty amusing - its interesting to see those who are really absorbed in something and those who are slowly falling asleep, and the difference in how they Hold themselves.

These are only very quick, very messy - many don't hold much of any resemblance to their original owner outside of gesture. But I really love the fluidity and freedom that a lot of them have, and I think I really have to work on capturing this character and keeping it when I step out-of-sketchbook to finish work.
