OUIL406 Visual Communicaton SB1 - "That's Pants!" Studio Briefing

This brief is a Group Project - The aim is create a photograph and a 10-30 frame GIF of something that really annoys us. It also can't be done on a piece of paper! all the work has to be done in-lens of a camera with as little Photoshop work as possible, stepping into the realms of 3D Illustration. The brief asks for an outcome that is 'satirical and humorous in tone' whilst not being completely outright offensive or discriminatory to any particular group of people.

To kick off the brief, we were asked individually to brainstorm and come up with 10 things that day-to-day really get on our nerves. Mine were listed as follows:

[]

My biggest gripes tend to come from people being rude with absolutely no reasoning. At weekends I work in a shop, and the amount of people who treat service staff like trash is pretty surprising - its often unsurprising to me when you usually encounter rude service staff if you can see the sort of clientèle they receive. I also frequently use public transport, trains and buses predominantly which again, tend to boast their fair share of rude people with everyone trying to rush to where they need to be.

After this, Fred set up a system to delegate us into groups (an incredibly high-tech randomiser that came in the form of a coffee cup). The groups were picked randomly - and my group consists of me (clearly), Tom Roberts, Hannah Graney and Katie Hickey. After the groups had been assigned, we were then assigned to create a A2 sheet Identifying the three things that mutually angered us the most

Speaking as a group, we all realised that ill-required impoliteness was a mutual dislike of ours. A lot of our dislikes tended to stem from elements of pop culture as well - celebrity culture, the nature of trends, the role of social media and technology in society etc...Being a community of art students too, a lot of us had at many points experienced the wonders of stereotyping, particularly in the regards that a lot of people believe that the arts is an 'easy' vocation - which I think anyone on a course at LCA could tell you is most definitely not the case - and this is something that was also a equally mutual point of contention.

The posters were then handed to other groups to pick a point of choice for us, in which we got given the Impoliteness of the General British public as a starting point. Fred then asked us to create another A2 poster with the 5 most annoying reasons as to why we didn't like that particular point

I felt like this was a good starting point for our work, actually - The group has a good rapport with each other and I think we'll get some good ideas from this as a result of it
