1. What skills have you developed through this
brief and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
|
|||||
Synthesis of media, as well as refinement have definately
started to improve my work, and I think the outcomes i've turned in for the
module have benefitted because of them. I’ve developed my skills using
illustrator, which has given me a better understanding on how to prepare
illustration for a variety of uses outside of just making pictures – such as
packaging, 3D illustrations, Large scale prints etc…These skills will come in
handy in the future as it opens up my scope as to what I can do with my
illustration.
|
|||||
2. What approaches to/methods
of image making have you developed and how have they informed your concept
development process?
|
|||||
I’ve used collage, digital image editing tools in
photoshop (the selection and Clone Stamp tools in particular), Illustrator –
I’ve also started to revisit typography tools which is something I haven’t
explored since my ED Graphics course, which was a welcome change to just
drawing. Much like using illustrator, getting to grips with the type tools
allows me to explore lots of different avenues outside simply making pictures
all the time, which as a creative is vital to my practice and it gives me a
lot more scope as to what I can achieve with my work.
Concept wise, I’ve started to identify ways I can
capture the energy of my early developmental work and use it in my final
pieces, something I’ve been severely lacking in previous projects.
|
|||||
3. What strengths can you
identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?
|
|||||
I’m a very ideas driven worker, but I’ve started to
capitalise on that by slowing down and refining particular ideas before
rushing onto other things, and leaving myself more development and
experimentation time has started to have a really positive effect on my
outcomes.
|
|||||
4. What weaknesses can you
identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?
|
|||||
Time management is still a problem within my work, and even though the end of the
project has turned out well my disorganisation and procrastination at some
points of this module have perhaps prevented me from reaching my full potential
– I lost a large sheet of early developmental sketches I produced for SB3 and
whilst I don’t think it will have an enormous detriment on my overall end
mark, I lose valuable time and energy having to recover and make up for silly
mistakes such as that – and whilst I definitely have improved from the start
of the year, I definitely have a long way to progress in this department as
we go into the second year.
|
|||||
5. Identify five things that
you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing
these?
|
|||||
· Improve time
management and organisation – so as not to slip into bad old habits and to
get the most out of my work
· Keep on top of blog
work consistently throughout so I don’t have loads to document at the end
· Allow more time to
revisit and re-work potential ideas before carrying on to finalise things.
· Continue to experiment
with different methods work and not slip into habits I’m familiar with
· Explore other methods
of illustrating outside of 2D.

yourself on the following areas:
(please indicate using an
‘x’)
5= excellent, 4 = very good,
3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor

The evaluation of your work
is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage
of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to
complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level
of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self-evaluation
process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
