OUIL503 Responsive Collaborative Practice - Introductory Sessions

To start off the collaborative practice brief, we first had to find partners to work with. We were given the option to work with either someone from Graphic Design, Animation, or someone from our year in Illustration.

I originally wanted to do some work with someone on Animation, since I wanted more experience with that - but a lot of the animators had either found partners already, or were hesitant to work some someone outside of Animation. I also found out that Sophie Hargreaves was in need of a work partner and we had worked on small tasks previously really well, so we agreed to partner up instead.

We both enjoy doing work with character design and animation, but through looking at different briefs we both liked the idea of looking at the WHISTLES brief that was on the YCN site - dealing with stuff like Product and Packaging for Fashion Retail.

In order to identify our skills and weaknesses within the partnership, we had to fill through an individual skill-set sheet, picking out what we could bring to the table and what the other would probably take the helm on. We also had to the fill these out onto a form that would work as a contract of agreement, in case the working relationship deteriorated.

Personal Aims, strengths and weaknesses:

Why have you chosen to work with your creative partner? What are your aims?

- We both have similar interests in our practice
- We both have similar working ethics
- Our skill sets compliment each other well (Sophie is more organised, I am more ideas and concept driven)

What are your specific areas of creative interest in this brief?

- We both have an interest in packaging and branding design
- We're both keen on fashion and fashion retail, which is what the brief is focused in

What specific creative skills do you have to offer in relation to your chosen brief? How do you intend to use them?

- Our skills suit the sort of production branding and fashion illustration requires - I am good with handling vectors for production, where Sophie H is good at pattern design.

What specific non-design skills do you have to offer in relation to your chosen brief? How do you intend to use them?

- I have previous experience with handling trends in fashion retail, particularly working with visual merchandising and brand material.

What will your specific roles be in the collaboration in relation to your brief?

- I'm focusing more on the packaging element of the brief, looking into the bottle, the box it goes in and how said box will be packaged and presented.

What will your individual responsibilities be in relation to your brief?

 - to ensure all personal work is documented individually
-that each person stays on top of their half of the workload

What will your joint responsibilities be?

- To stay in regular communication, telling each other whenever significant changes happen

- The keep things moving smoothly and consistently without letting the project drop.

Me and sophie set up a private facebook group that we could upload files onto, in order to show them to each other more easily. We also agreed to meet up every monday, as well as on thursday through responsive to go through ideas - using the facebook group to keep in contact throughout the brief.
