This is my Big kahuna/Fmp brief - big, scary, old studio brief 8.
After the first semester, I decided that I needed to have a drastic rehaul of a lot of my briefs - dropping a lot of the original briefs that I'd chosen. However, I knew I was still really interested in creating stuff for patterns, and merchandise - which is what my 'Om Nom Nom' brief was originally was, so I decided to rehash this to create what essentially became this brief.
The plan was originally to have a different theme every couple of weeks - do a bunch of motifs, then move on to a new one. However, I realised I actually really enjoyed drawing the form and shapes of plants, and decided that I wanted to explore it as much as I could.
I started researching lots of leaves - birch, oak, fern, chesnut tree leaves - all leaves that typically are found in british forests and woodlands. I really liked the colours of these inks together - individually they were really fluorescent, but when they were mixed together they made loads of lovely warm browny/greeny tones that looks a lot like autumn leaves. I really liked it. Here's what it looked like a little closer below:
