I've developed a wide range of idea generation techniques, as well as digital production skills, work with shape and colour as well as general time and project management. I'd say there has been definite improvement in these skills through doing this module, especially in learning to pace myself and not bite off more than I can chew related to however long each brief set would run.
I've worked in a series of media this module, particularly in paper and collage, paint, pen and ink and probably most prominently towards the end of the module digital media. The increase of a digital presence in my work has definitely started to change the way that I work because I've discovered how useful it is at all stages of the process - from quick thumb-nailing to refining my work for a final piece. Overall it is helping my work to become more professional in its outcome, which is definitely an aim of mine; whilst the work i'm producing at the minute is good and i'm (mostly) satisfied with its outcome, I always feel there are often touches that let it down. Learning to develop a synthesis between digital and analogous media is slowly helping me identify and overcome this.
One thing i've definitely been pleased with in the work i've created is that all of it has communicated the needs of the brief very clearly. One of my utmost goals in any of the work that I do is that the end product communicates what is being asked of it, and if its difficult to tell what is going on then I personally don't credit it as being a good final outcome. I think the outcomes that i've gotten not only meet the requirements of the brief well, but are clear in their approach and therefore would work well in context as pieces of illustration. I have a strength and passion in narrative and character and I think these things have shone through in my final outcomes as well, regardless of approach or media used. Hopefully as I lead onto a longer running project, I'll continue to channel these and be able to expand on them.
I certainly didn't do nearly half as much idea development or synthesis in between projects as I probably should have done. Work I did create and which formed important points of development for my projects were lost and weren't documented (this was in SB3) which will probably prove detrimental at assessment. Whilst my management and organisation have seen a marked improvement this module, I think its definitely something I need to continue to work upon quite drastically, as it means my projects are missing out on their full potential. Lack of development in SB4 resulted in a lacklustre outcome - these are all problems that could have been avoided had I left myself enough time to properly develop them and organise myself. In future I am going to aim to keep all my work categorised in a safe place to avoid any of it going missing at assessment, and also make sure I play around with as many potential outcomes as possible before finalising to make sure the thing I produce at the very end is the best that it could be.
1. Keep organised to prevent the loss of important work
2. Explore a variety of different ideas before rushing to one outcome
3. Step out of my comfort zone and try media i'm not used to - experiment with drastically different types of work to see how it effect the outcomes.
4. Continue to mix digital and analogue methods of working to create professional looking outcomes
5. Keep on top of my written documentation to make things as clear as possible when it comes to assessment.
