The task for this brief was to create a series of 3 illustrations in any format (other than a A-size), size or colour in response to any of a series of quotes given to us.
The quote that resonated with me the most was "We don't see things as they are, We see things as we are" - as I thought there was almost something quite touching about it. I have strong opinions about the attitudes we have in society and about how harmful they can be to us as individuals, and I felt like this quote was a really good way of representing that rejection and overcoming of this in order to become better and happier as people. A lot of the ideas I came up with focused around this - with a few wildcards, such as the tree and the map one.
In the Concept crit that we had at the end of the week, people really liked the point of view I'd taken with my idea. Most definitely favoured the more straight-up ones - the phobia one got a lot of positive comments, but considering this is a topic i've explored a lot previously I decided not to go with that as a potential development point. The Islamaphobia idea and the Movie monster choice got possibly the strongest feedback - people liked the fact that I was looking into subjects that could be potentially difficult or otherwise uncomfortable. I definitely want to continue to broach these kind of topics, but with a much softer, more relatable approach.
