OUIL403 Visual Skills SB4 - Development

I really liked this style of lineless digital painting, and the character that it added to my pieces so I decided to explore it a bit further. I was interested in perhaps pursuing this as a final and doing a lot more experimentation with it - however I discovered quite early on that the print facilities weren't open due to workshops, and therefore I wouldn't be able to print it all out to a sufficient size which made it redundant.

I was, however interested in ways I could emulate this style analogously in way that could still be refined (and not in cut paper for once) - I was really pleased with the level of tone and detail I managed to get out of the pencil crayons for these sketches, they were lovely!! I think theyd definately be something i'd continue to develop on maybe in another brief, look at a digital/analogue crossover approach. As much as I like them I think if I did these on as large as a scale as I'm hoping to (At A1 and/or above) to do them in pencil would be far too painstaking and time consuming given the frame ive got to work in.

This was a brief sketchy experiement with another idea that I had - wasn't too keen on the idea but I really liked the acrylic as a medium. I realised that on a big scale, this was probably the closest I was gonna get to matching the lineless digital style and tone of work without resorting to cut paper again - plus I haven't used it in a long while and it felt really nice to pick up a paintbrush again

This was a WIP of the outcome of one of the final illustrations I did. I wasn't 100% pleased with it, a lot was off - I didn't like the facial expressions much at all and I felt the paint work was inconsistant between the two of them - however I found that I was vastly running out of time, and thought it would just be better to mod it slightly a little bit later on down the line.

These, however turned out much, much better! I was really pleased with the outcome of the sharpie lines - they were thick and had a fluidity I really like in lineart but still look really polished. I think if I could have redone the whole piece like this I probably would have done.

This is what the whole thing looked like before I put washes on the two side pieces
