OUIL504 Illustration 1 Part 1 - Lines and Motifs.

At the end of the last session, we were asked to find a series of 3 separate motifs that related to a theme we'd identified from our author's work. I picked 'Environment', given that was Naomi Klein's most recent run of work. The motifs I chose were plants, animals and spaces - and we had to find ten images of each, put into our Visual Journal

Our first task was to use our directory of lines to draw a variety of motifs. I instantly found this tricky because I picked stupidly complex images - but I actually quite like some of the outcomes -

These four entailed you having to use three different line qualities with 3 different motifs to communicate a foreground, mid-ground and background. It sounded complicated - but being forced to minimalise the elements of the motifs ended up really helping, I like the staircase one in the bottom right -
