This session we had to do a similar task to the previous one but instead of line, we were working exclusively with collage. I enjoy collage, I used it a lot last year but often it involved lots of digital refinement - not the long slog of analogously doing everything.
- This was an attempt at capturing negative space - using a flower from one of my motif lists. I guess you get the negative space feel? its definately not recognisable as a flower, really. This took the most time to do and turn out the least successful - but I did pick up some pointers on how not-to do collage.
- This one was meant to communicate a background, foreground and mid-ground but is significantly less successful that the line version of this task. Its meant to be strawberries, some venus flytraps and a snail but how much of that is visible is highly questionable. I think the texture choices were pretty wrong - I realised midway through hapdashedly using mishmashed textures that we had a colour paper drawer. oops.
Another, slightly more successful negative space collage. This was cut out of a paper towel (which is an incredibly annoying material to work with) and stuck down on top of some blue paper. The silhouette is definately more successful than the previous attempts, but would probably have turned out better if I hadn't used a godawful paper towel as the top layer when there was a draw of better quality green parcel paper next to me.
This was like a reverse of the paper towel one - I collaged a load of material and then cut it out to form the flower shape. I actually really liked the outcome of this one? Its definately still really rough and could do with some refinement but I really like the mix of colour (the quotes also relate back to the authors work a bit, which wasn't intentional but is definately pretty cool)
This one was just a trial to see if I could do a better fore-mid-background image with the collage. This didn't turn out as bad as i'd expected it to but I think I could have definately executed it a lot better.
