Overall - this is all the work completed for Editorial Weekly in total. When I initially started this brief, I intended it to be a weekly serial that I would continue right to the end of the course. In the end - I did these over the space of the first semester, and ended it as I moved into 2016.
At the time I decided to end the brief - I had decided that editorial might not have been the field for me, and that I wanted to dedicate more of my time through extended practice on other projects. I'd had a few particularly harsh crits on these, which had ruined my morale about the suitability of my work for editorial, and I felt that it would have been a waste to continue.
In retrospect - I actually quite like these! I don't think they were as bad as a lot of the critique I received for them was - as images, I actually like how they've turned out. They were pretty marmite, really - some people really liked them, some people really didn't. Although the composition's weren't the best, and my reliance on 'character' as a drawing tool has since moved on a lot the colours i've used were successful and I still like the techniques I was using to make them.
As for editorials - I do think that conceptually and compositionally, they might not be the most suitable. I feel one positive outcome of doing this brief is that i've found a lot out about what formats art directors typically look for in editorial illustration, and that these images are far too 'samey' to make a diverse portfolio. This is something that i'll probably look at fixing and continuing in the future - as i've since had a re-piqued interest in editorial now that my practice has moved on a bit.
