So last year in the first semester I put a callout asking for animators to get in touch for a collaboration project. Knowing that I was already doing a lot of really varied briefs, I at least wanted to take a stab at getting some experience doing some Visual Development work - in things like storyboarding and interior design for animation, which is something that i've always had an interest in doing.
I got two responses - one from David Wevill, and one from Becky Gilby - two third year animators looking for somebody to do some storyboarding for them.
David's project is for an animation pilot - called 'Sillie and millie', which is basically about a young girl who's favourite stuffed toy horse comes to 'life', which causes various funnies. He wanted somebody to help collaborate on the task of storyboarding - to even out his workload and also to get more creative input on his shot choices.
Becky wanted someone to storyboard for her stop motion retelling of 'Rumplestiltskin', because it wasn't something she felt confident doing, and she also wanted someone to do some set design for her.
There were very, very drastic differences between the two projects - and although they reached the same end point, the journey to get there was a definite mixed bag of experience. Once i'd been approached by them both and there had been an initial consultation - I set out trying to tackle the job.
